The Story
The process of discovering textiles to grow our collection at Clothsmith is incredibly rewarding and one of the perks of the job. After a huge amount of sifting through piles of textiles for ‘just the right piece’ at a collectors fair, this piece jumped out with its heavenly soft tones and delicate silk stitch work. It is a Turkish piece that dates from the 19th century, and although the Ottoman Empire was then experiencing decline, the artistic traditions and skills in textile art continued to thrive, as showcased here.
